What's a girl to do?

My serger is still in the shop and I can't hardly take it anymore. It's been in the shop for nearly a week (tomorrow is one week) and I'm in misery! It needed a cleaning that I'd been putting off, but then the self-threading plunger snapped off when I was threading it last Friday, so I figured I'd better just take it in for servicing. Well they promised me it would be ready on Wednesday, but when I called yesterday to confirm so hubby could pick it up, the part hadn't arrived yet. So I just called today to see if it was ready as they led me to believe it would be there today - still no part. :-( And now the lady told me "don't call us, we'll call you when it's ready" and "it won't be tomorrow or Monday". Geez, in today's world, does it take more than a week for a part to get somewhere - a $5.99 part nonetheless? Needless to say, I'm so bummed. I have things cut out to sew, but they are knit shirts for my youngest that I need to serge, so what's a girl to do? My throw pillows on the couch need recovering so maybe that is what I should be doing. Ugg!!! :-(

I feel your pain, don't you just hate it. I hope they get it done on Monday. Do you need a new purse? You could do that on your sewing machine.

Oh a new purse, that is a great idea! :-)

When my serger was in the shop, I asked the shop for a loaner. They paired me up with an old used one but it worked for what I needed at the time. Maybe since the shop hasn't been able to get yours repaired within the time limit they gave you, they will fix you up with a loaner machine. Just a thought.

Mine has been gathering dust lately due to lack of use. :-( BTW, love the tops (instant gratification post) you made recently. You're such an inspiration! Any tips for fitting in sewing time?

I never thought to ask them for a loaner Marty, if it's not ready early next week I'll have to inquire.

As for "tips" on fitting in sewing time - you can eat an elephant one bite at a time, so you can sew a garment (or anything for that matter) one stitch at a time! Seriously, I sometimes will go days without sewing, but it's always on my mind and I'm thinking about other projects I want to do. I guess like anything else, just try to plan an allotted period each day or each week to fit your schedule. I usually get more done on the weekend because DH is home, but now that the kids are back to school and it's just me and the youngest home, I seem to be getting more done. Not sure that is helpful, but that is how it is at my house. :-)

A good answer, Melissa. Some of those hours I spend on the internet should be spent sewing. OK -- one bit at a time!

Make that one BITE at a time!

Oh don't feel bad, I can be a big time waster on the internet too! I'm getting better, but I definitely still have my days! LOL

Hi Melissa!
"Serge" is back from the hospital! And I'm practicing... Using scraps of different fabrics. He seems to like double thickness best...
FUN, eh! Do stitches have to be PERFECT when you're finishing seams?
Soft hug,

Oh great Rhonda, so glad to here "serge" is back in action! I know I missed my baby tremendously while it was away. And no stitches don't have to be perfect, as long as you're happy with it that is all that matters. How often do people peek inside your clothes anyway???? ;-)
